One of the many wonderful things about living in San Francisco, is that one does not have to travel very far in any direction to escape urban light pollution in order to get to a night sky dark enough to really appreciate the absolute splendor of the heavens.

Most of the photographs on this page have been taken at my favorite location of Lake Sonoma in the heart of the northern California wine country in Sonoma County. Lake Sonoma is located 85 miles northwest of San Francisco. The night sky at Lake Sonoma is quite dark with only a moderate ant of light pollution in the southeastern sky emanating from the nearby towns of Healdsburg and Santa Rosa.

Most of my astrophotography images have been taken while camping at Liberty Glen Campground. Liberty Glen Campground is a drive-in campground located in the foothills overlooking Lake Sonoma with 97 individual campsites many with superb lake views.
